TRR Challenge #66 'Shabby Christmas'

I'm finally back in blogworld after taking a few months break to concentrate on The Ribbon Reel shop.

We have moved from fortnightly challenges to monthly ones from this month over at The Ribbon Reel Challenge Blog, and what a fabulous challenge I have come back to.  Tammy is our host this month and has chosen this beautiful shabby Christmas photo to inspire us.

and ask that you create a card / project using the inspiration photo using BLUE, PINK & CREAM/WHITE PLUS RIBBON

I love this colour combination for Christmas, I find the bold red and greens too much and love the subtle tones of the blue and pink.

I used several die cuts to create the central focus of the card and threaded seam binding around the edges.  I added a simple WMS sentiment next to a glittery chipboard star.

One of the most fantastic things about running a ribbon shop is that I get to play with all of the off cuts and couldn't resist this beautiful pink silk ribbon from May Arts to create a pretty bow.

I have used kraft cardstock inking the edges with PTI Snow White Ink, layering some pretty pink snowflake paper as the background.  Papers from various MME sets make up the diecut circles with a little ivory silky crush and pink silk ribbon to running horizontally.

We have two fabulous prizes up for grabs.  Our first sponsor is the lovely 'Paper Sweeties' who are sponsoring us with a $20 Gift Certificate to their store.

http://www.papersweeties.com/

Plus we have a second prize from The Ribbon Reel

I can't wait to see the different variations entered into this months challenge.   So remember there is a whole month to take part, whether you are designing a card or an exciting project, we'd love to see what you have been creating.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the Design Team's cards.

TRR #45 Home Spun

Welcome friends to another fun fortnightly challenge at The Ribbon Reel this fortnight!  It's Jeanne's turn to host this week.

Jeanne has chosen this gorgeous photo to inspire us .....

and ask that you create a card / project inspired by the photo plus use BURLAP and RIBBON.

Here is my card....

I played around with a few apple images but wasn't happy with the results so opted to stick with the colours from Jeanne's inspiration photo.

I was inspired by the wooden apple basket and the wooden table and found this gorgeous wooden board/plank paper from MME to use as my background.  I added a small strip of this fab 50mm wide brown Burlap ribbon and frayed the edges slightly.

The little kraft bag was topped with a sentiment from WMS and I used a red crochet flower from my stash (had it for ages and no idea where it came from!), a small prima flower and a sweet red tea rose.  The rose has a few dots of stickles, not sure how well it can be seen in the photo though.  Then I finished with a seam binding bow in brique.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the design team's creations, you'll definitely feel inspired by them and I hope you can join in.

Supplies used:
Cardstock - MME Dilly Dally from The Ribbon Reel

TRR Challenge #44 'Winter Wonderland'

Welcome friends to another fun fortnightly challenge at The Ribbon Reel!  It's Debbie's turn to host this week.

Debbie has chosen this beautiful photo .....

and ask that you create a card / project inspired by the colours from the photo and include a
SNOWMAN or SNOWFLAKE plus
RIBBON/TWINE/TRIM.

Here is my card....

MME must be one of my favourite brands and I just love these papers.  I layered the papers as the base of my card.  I used a MME journalling card, which I cut to size, distressed and used my punch to create the notebook edge.  I added a paper doily and a little black patterned paper behind it, in an attempt to create some layers (those that know me, will know layers don't come naturally to me!)

I used the fabulous star stamp from WMS as my focal point which I cut by hand and added a white glittered chipboard snowflake on top and topped with a little Christmas sentiment, also from WMS.  I added some MME washi tape and brad from MME and some rancho red seam binding, which I distressed with crushed shell Glimmer Mist.

Don't forget to check out the gorgeous creations from the rest of the Design Team.

TRR Challenge #43 'Nordic Noel'

Welcome friends to another fun fortnightly challenge!  It's Helen's turn to host this week.

Helen has chosen this beautiful Christmas photo .....

and ask that you create a card / project using the colours
RED
,
WHITE & KRAFT plus BUTTONS, RIBBON & TWINE!

Here is my card.....

This was such a fun challenge and I knew straight away to dig out my WMS stamps! The holiday ornaments set had a nordic feel to it so it was perfect.

I started with the Cosmo Cricket paper as my background.  The kraft cardstock has been embossed and a little white ink added to the raised pattern to highlight the design (this folder is one of the new additions to my stash, how I've gone for so long with out embossing folders I don't know!).  I layered a piece of red gingham fabric over the top of the embossing and lightly frayed the edges.  I would ideally have liked to stitch the fabric to the cardstock but my sewing machine has been pushed to the back of the cupboard in search of our Christmas decorations.

I thought the woven burlap would look great with the colour scheme so added a little snippet to the top and bottom of the card, pulling out the edge slightly, before overlaying some natural button twine.  And not forgetting my little gingham bow to top the ornament.

I inked up the reindeer holiday ornament stamp with PTI Snow White Ink (love this ink!) and cut out with the matching nestie.  I added a little detail using a few dots of Stickles.  I wanted to add some felt on my card somewhere so cut out a small heart by hand and added a button to the top.

I haven't had time to make many Christmas cards this year.  I struggle every year and always have the intention to start earlier the following year, but life carries on and it never happens.  Anyway, I know exactly who I want to have this pretty card, I'm sure they'll love it!

Don't forget to check out the rest of the Design Team's festive creations, and say hi to our newest team members!

Cardstock - CC Tea for Two from The Ribbon Reel, Kraft Card
Stamps - 2011 Holiday Ornaments from Waltzingmouse Stamps

TRR Challenge #41 'Crochet'

Welcome friends to another fun fortnightly challenge at The Ribbon Reel!
It's Zuzana's turn to host this week.

Zuzana has chosen this bright and beautiful inspiration photo .....

and ask that you create a card / project using CROCHET LACE or CROCHET FLOWER plus BUTTON & RIBBON/TWINE.

Here is my card....

I left it a little late to make my card, hence the dark photo taken this evening.  I've been suffering with my second cold within 2 weeks, plus my hubby is suffering with severe tooth ache.  I'm hoping it's related to the cold he gave me and not the root canal work he recently had done!  Emergency appointment needed in the morning for him!!

I was thinking of cheating and making a CAS card but changed my mind after flicking through my stamps and found this cute Gorjuss image, Little Foxes.  I dug out my Promarkers and got colouring.  Once I'd coloured my image, I found some matching papers, although I have no idea where they are from.  The simple sentiment is from WMS stamped in Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink.

I handcut my image, adding an adhesive pearl heart to her pocket and an orange resin flower to her hat.  I'm really pleased with my colouring, I'm still learning but enjoying any improvements I make.  I layered the papers and added a paper doily behind the image.  Finishing with a little button twine bow, a couple of roses and some white crochet lace.

(* just realised I forgot to include a button on my card - sorry Zuzana!)

Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT's cards, plus we have Ren-Yi Lo guest designing with us for November - pop over and say hi!

Supplies used:

Stamps - Gorjuss Little Foxes from The Ribbon Reel, Sentiment from WMS

TRR Challenge #40 'Over the Rainbow'

Welcome friends to another fun fortnightly challenge at The Ribbon Reel!  It's Pauline's turn to host this week.

Pauline has chosen this bright and beautiful inspiration photo .....

source:here

and ask that you create a card / project with all the COLOURS of the RAINBOW,
plus RIBBON & TWINE in the photo.

Here is my card...

I decided to checkout Pinterest for some 'rainbow' inspiration and found so many beautiful cards.  I decided to use strips of ribbon on this card, of course in the colours of the rainbow.

I'm lucky enough to have a huge selection of ribbons at my fingertips to choose from.  I decided to use a different type ribbon for each colour.  I managed to use 12 different types; red pom pom trim, red twill, orange mesh, orange mini ric rac, yellow gingham frill, yellow burlap cord, celery green stripe twill, green grosgrain, blue satin, blue velvet, purple gingham, purple stitch grosgrain.

I created a quick flower from the yellow gingham ruffle ribbon and added a a red tea rose and light violet cherry blossom, along with a blue candy stripe button and red polka dot button.  The card looked a bit bare in the middle so I decided to add a kraft butterfly using my PTI die.  The sentiment is also from PTI.

Don't forget to check out the colourful cards created by the rest of the design team.

TRR Challenge #39 Shabby Naturals

Welcome friends to another fun fortnightly challenge at The Ribbon Reel Challenge Blog!
It's Fran's turn to host this week and she has chosen this beautiful inspiration photo .....

and ask that you create a card / project using the COLOURS in the photo
plus RIBBON / TWINE / BURLAP and make it SHABBY!

Here is my card....

This was such a fab challenge from Fran, I loved the photo inspiration and the requirements for the challenge.  I immediately thought, kraft, white and ink!  Then I knew it had to be a Christmas card.  This is my first Christmas card of the year, with many more to make in the next few weeks.  I decided to add a few 'shabby' elements, including paper doilies, lots of white ink and crinkled seam binding.

I based my card on to some musical note paper from Echo Park and then stamped the kraft cardstock with a script stamp in white ink.  I had an old paper doily which was a little torn but kept it, just in case I could use it, and added half to each side of my card.  I used the same musical note paper as the base of my label and inked up a WMS Seasonal Remedies stamp in white ink.  I added a few pieces of ivory woven burlap which were little pieces of off cuts which I distressed and pulled apart slightly to make wider.  The mushroom seam binding was sprayed with Glimmer Mist, scrunched and left to dry on the heater before adding a loose bow.  Then I added these beautiful white glitter chipboard stars to add a more Christmas feel.

The kraft tag was put together in a similar way to the card using a different Seasonal Remedies stamp.

Don't forget to check out the rest of the beautiful shabby cards from the rest of the Design Team - they are gorgeous!

TRR Challenge #38 'Damask Delight'

Welcome friends to another fun fortnightly challenge at The Ribbon Reel!  It's Debbie's turn to host this week and she has chosen this beautiful inspiration photo .....

and ask that you create a card/project inspired by the NEUTRAL PALETTE in the photo
and include A DAMASK PATTERN, LACE / RIBBONS

Here is my card...

I wanted to have a go at creating a card without patterned paper and dug through my stamps to find this beautiful damask background stamp from Darkroom Door.

The damask stamp was inked with Versamagic Sahara Sand on to white cardstock.  I used my trusty tape gun to stick it onto a kraft card.  The central label was created with my nesties with kraft and white cardstock.  The sentiment is from WMS also inked with Sahara Sand.  I sprayed Crushed Shell Glimmer Mist on to some Cameo Beige seam binding and tied a double bow and added a couple of mocha beige cherry blossom and an ivory tea rose.  Oh and a few pearls!

Yesterday I spent the day putting together a few gift bag sets to sell in my NOTHS shop so I had gift bags on the brain.  There were a few sweets left over which were used as props so I decided to create a little gift bag for them.  I used a large glassine bag and inked up the same damask stamp.  I've not stamped on a glassine bag before so wasn't sure if it would work.  It took a little while to dry but created a great look.  The sentiment label is also from WMS.

Challenges:

Supplies:
Cardstock - Kraft and White Cardstock
Stamps - Damask Background from Darkroom Door from The Ribbon Reel, Rescue Remedies and Say It Loud from WMS
Ribbon - Cameo Beige Seam Binding from The Ribbon Reel
Flowers - Mocha Beige Cherry Blossoms, Ivory Tea Roses from The Ribbon Reel

TRR Challenge #37 Chevrons

Welcome friends to another fun fortnightly challenge at The Ribbon Reel!  It's my turn to host this week and I've chosen this fabulous inspiration photo .....

and ask that you create a card/project inspired by the PASTEL COLOURS in the photo and include CHEVRONS & RIBBONS!

Here is my card...

I loved this challenge and had tons of ideas of what I wanted to create. I opted to use one of the new kraft Chevron Bitty Bags from the shop as my centrepiece. I added a spellbinder label folded over the top of the bag held together with a mini wooden peg as a closure. The sweet shabby tea roses add the finishing touch to the bitty bag along with some aqua swirly pearls!

I used papers from MME Be Happy and sewed around the edge of the card before adding some iced lime seam binding and a cute lemon yellow button tied on with some ivory button twine. Not forgetting the little label, which is a stamp from WMS's Big Berries Strawberry Set (love this set).

Please check out the rest of the DT's card, they are super gorgeous!

TRR Challenge #29 Die Cuts

Welcome friends to another fun fortnightly challenge at The Ribbon Reel!
Helen is our lovely host this week and she has chosen this fab inspiration photo.....

...and ask that you create a card /project using the colour from the inspiration photo
(CORAL, BRIGHT/CHARTREUSE GREEN & BLUE)
plus use a DIE CUT/PUNCH plus RIBBON & FLOWERS!

Here is my card...

This was such a fun challenge and one I found it much easier than I thought I would to use this colour combo.  I started by creating my card from coral bazzill cardstock, layered with Basic Grey kraft paper, followed by this beautiful green patten paper from Cosmo Cricket Tea for Two paper set.

The central die cut shape is from the Tea for Two Element Deck from Cosmo Cricket which matches the paper perfectly.  The circular and label die cut are from Fancy Pants.  I layered the die cuts over a paper doily, stamping a 'feel better soon' sentiment from WMS's Afternoon Tea set, one of my many favourite WMS sets.  At the last minute I stuck a coral button from my stash to the sentiment.

To finish the card, I added a beautiful cornflower blue gardenia blossom, 3 small blue roses and not forgetting...the watermelon crochet lace (although this looks quite like coral) and a strip of celery loop trim.

Challenges:

Supplies:
Cardstock - Bazzill, Basic Grey Kraft paper, Cosmo Cricket Tea for Two paper from The Ribbon Reel
Ribbons - Watermelon Crochet Lace and Celery Loop trim from The Ribbon Reel
Flowers - Cornflower Blue Gardenia from The Ribbon Reel, small blue roses from stash
Die Cuts - Cosmo Cricket Tea for Two Element Deck from The Ribbon Reel, Fancy Pants
Other - Paper Doily from The Ribbon Reel, coral button from stash

TRR Challenge #27

Welcome friends to another fun fortnightly challenge over at The Ribbon Reel Challenge Blog! Zuzana is our lovely host this week and she has chosen this fab inspiration photo.....

...and ask that you create a card /project using BLUE plus COLOURS in the photo, RIBBON and a BUTTON!

Here is my card....

I choose to use the colours pink and white from the inspiration photo.  I've rather neglected this sweet little jar stamp from Little Musings recently and decided to stamp it in white onto kraft cardstock.  I tied some button twine around the top and added a little cotton button from Tea House Bridge and a little ivory pearl.

I wanted to stitch around the edge of my card and, after around 15 minutes, managed to get it done.  For some reason my sewing machine kept jamming!  I added a couple of 25mm White/Pink Tea Roses and a blue faux silk ribbon bow.

Supplies used:
Cardstock - Fancy Pants, MME
Ribbon - Blue Faux Silk Ribbon and Ivory Button Twine from The Ribbon Reel
Flowers - 25mm White/Pink Tea Roses from The Ribbon Reel
Stamps - Little Jar of... by Little Musings from The Ribbon Reel

Debbie has set such a super challenge this week, I just love this colour combo, although struggled to find yellow much yellow items in my stash. I went with pink and blue paper from Websters Pages (free with Crafts Beautiful magazine this month), added a beautiful pink gardenia and a sweet yellow rose. The loop trim is actually ivory but looks more of a yellow in real life and I added a little pink lace bow.

Cardstock - Webster Pages, MME
Flowers - Pink Gardenia and Yellow Rose from The Ribbon Reel
Ribbon - Ivory Loop Trim and Pink Crochet Lace from The Ribbon Reel
Stamp - WMS Compact Sentiments

I used some gorgeous rose paper from Papermania, as well as papers from MME. I just love using these colours, they are so easy to work with.

I chose to use this beautiful blue Gardenia and a couple of pink cherry blossoms instead of roses, as the paper is covered in them. The sentiment is from WMS which I added stitching and pearls to. You can just about see my little bow underneath the Gardenia which is baby pink seam binding. I completed the card by adding white crochet lace to the bottom.

TRR Challenge #20 New Year, New Start

Welcome friends to another fun fortnightly challenge at The Ribbon Reel. Zuzana is our fab host for this week and has chosen the theme.....

'New Year, New Start'

...and ask that you create a card /project with your
NEW YEARS RESOLUTION and RIBBONS/TWINE and a BUTTON.

Here is my card....

That challenge definitely got me thinking as I hadn't really set myself any resolutions for this year. However, something I am always trying to improve on is being more organised.

I do like to keep busy and always seem to give myself too many things to do in a day! So the sentiment I printed off seemed to fit well.

My aim this year is to keep my 'to do' lists short so that I feel I have actually achieved something at the end of the day. At the end of the day, there are only 24 hours in a day and you can only get done what you can!

Thank for looking in this week and if you feel like a challenge and sharing your resolution(s), please check out the rest of the DT's fabulous cards and join in!
